NEWLY EDITED!!! Some dwell under canopies of wisteria or kudzu. Some have tamed hawks, some raccoons, and some snakes. These are the people of a vast forest who exist in great tribes, creating cultures based on the flora or fauna they govern, and are only twelve inches tall.

Thorn and Tara grew up together. She is the daughter of a chief. He is her slave, trained in the art of physical combat to protect her. When she is abducted, he is offered his freedom if he will save her. But she is in the possession of a hideous tribe, one whose chief is an abomination of nature, and who is responsible for the genocide of his own of which he is the last. Now Thorn will risk his life, not for liberty, but for love.

An epic tale of adventure, betrayal, vengeance, love, and martial arts action!

This is a really great book. I've read it twice, and enjoyed it immensely both times. (I am currently reading the Warrior-Lost, also excellent). The story includes many common aspects of a good book: love, hate, friendships, betrayals, heriosm, corwardice, right and wrong. I could go on. With these things alone, the book might be considered worthy of your time, but that's not all. (Nope. :)

There are, I think, three truly remarkable aspects of The Warrior-Son that make it special:

First, the setting/characters. The characters in this story are numerous. They're organized into various tribes named for the flora and fauna of the biomes where they live. It is not quite unique to have the characters be tiny (they average around 12"), but for them to take on the characteristics of their tribe namesake, that is truly remarkable. I will say no more about that.

The second is the fight scenes. One could definitely describe the martial arts sequences in this book to be "prominently featured." Not only that, but they are incredibly detailed, and fairly simple to imagine, despite the blindingly complex skill of the parties involved. Suffice to say, pacifists and wimps will not enjoy this book.

Lastly, and appropriately, the ending. If you're like me, you get a deep emotional attachment to the characters in a book. The ending was a very emotional one for me, but I won't spoil it.

Write on, Scott!

The WarriorSon edition by Scott Blasingame Robert P O'Brien Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

The Warrior-Son is an excellent read from a new author. I really think this book has the potential to become a series that I for one will read.
Thorn is the last warrior of his tribe, the Creek, who became a slave as a child trained in the martial arts & chosen as protector for Tara, the daughter of the Chief of the Kudzu tribe. It is a life of service that Thorn relishes as it gives him a chance to be w/his true love, Tara. He is her sworn protector but is motivated by more than just duty, he is motivated by unrequited love for her. When Tara is kidnapped, Thorn has his chance to win his freedom but he undertakes this arduous journey that not only brings him face to face w/his past but closer to true love. He goes on a quest & must fight to save her.
The martial arts fight scenes are very well written & thought out. If you have ever done martial arts or are just well versed in them you will appreciate his attention to to detail. The fight sequences are highly detailed w/spinning back kicks that will have you "seeing" it in your head as you read.
Another aspect of the book I quite enjoyed is the friendships of Thorn & Tara whom they have to rely on throughout the book. They are imaginative & prove to Thorn that he has allies in this world, who will help him fight to save Tara. I actually think that each of these friends could have their own books where Scott could expand his growing world of 12 inch tall warriors.
This freshman effort has several unexpected twists that I did not see coming. This book had me on the edge of my seat ignoring all else to see how everything & everyone turned out.
Highly recommend this book & can't wait to read the next book in the series!!
A great easy to read book that has everything. Once you start it's hard to put it down, all ways wanting to know what will happen next. The attention detail really pulls you in and puts you there in the story instead of just reading an account of the events. I read it so quickly the first time, I plan on re reading it in the near future and pass it to my 8 year old to read.
Kudos to Scott on his first publication! I am relatively new to this genre, and this was an enjoyable offering. The storyline is well planned and kept me coming back to find out "What happens next?" Because I do not practice martial arts I could not completely engage in or enjoy reading the highly detailed fight scenes. But the storyline itself and a couple of wicked twists made me a fan of this novel. Looking forward to the next installment in the series!
This book was a great read! Always exciting story line. Kept my interest all the way through to the end. Although there were a few typos and grammar mistakes, they did not take away from the overall story.

My only complaint was there was too much description of what the characters were wearing. These details did not add to the story or plot in my opinion.

The ending was not what I expected, but it has left room for a second volume, which I will most certainly be reading. Hurry up and get to writing, Scott!
This is a wonderful book! It is filled with intricate fights where you can almost feels the blows and taste of the blood and sweat intertwined with a love story that's is fraught with complications. The author wraps your emotions up into each character like that of a kudzu vine overtaking anything in its path. The ending leaves you wanting more...I hear there may be a sequel...here's to hoping!
This is a great book to read, if you are into detailed fight scenes you will be in love. The detail of the scenes is great, the flow of the action is smooth. You THINK you know what is going to happen, but you don't. Some of the fight scenes did seem to go on a little too long at times, but that is part of what makes the details plentiful. I am looking forward to the sequel.
